Every Tuesday and Friday, Endless Summer Cruises offer the St Lucia Boat Tour that could possibly be the most memorable thing you and your family do whilst on the island. It’s a full day so come well equipped. Wear some light comfortable clothes but remember that the sun can be deceiving whilst out on the water and it might appear less fierce than it actually is. So you need to be careful of the strong sun and take precautions by bringing a hat and some good quality sun block cream. A pair of sunglasses wouldn’t go amiss and do not on any account forget your camera because you will get some great photo opportunities. There are toilets on board and we stop to go ashore twice. Once in Soufriere late morning for our Plantation Visit and once more at Anse Cochon on the way back in the afternoon.
When we stop at Anse Cochon, there will be an opportunity for swimming ashore and snorkeling so it’s a good idea to bring a towel and swimming costumes. We are not able to carry enough snorkeling gear for absolutely everyone and so if that is something that is really important to you bring your own. It’s well worth the effort as the reefs here are beautiful and usually teeming with sea-life.
Once we leave the dock the crew hoist the sails and the catamaran heads South to start your adventure.
It takes approximately two and half hours to reach Soufriere and as we turn the last headland and get our first glimpse of the Pitons, everyone stops what they are doing to look, simply enthralled by the majestic beauty of these fabled twin peaks. The boat snuggles into the dock at Soufriere, capital of the South and there buses await to take everyone on the first leg of the land portion of the trip.
On Tuesdays our destination is Fond Doux Estate and on Fridays Morne Coubaril, both are marvelous examples of working cocoa plantations and favorites of Endless Summer Cruises. Nearly all the cocoa in St Lucia at present is purchased by “Hotel Chocolat” the luxury UK high street Chocolatier and online chocolate purveyor.
Your St Lucia Tour includes other important attractions in the area-The Botannical Gardens including the Toraille Falls and a walk in the Volcano and Sulphur Springs. There you can scrape up the sulfurous mud and cover yourself with it because it has tremendously therapeutic qualities and is the best thing known to man for an amazing complexion. However being sulphur it can smell a bit! After a tour of the plantation and taking in the manufacturing processes carried out on the farm, you are invited to a buffet lunch.
After lunch, the drivers will return everyone to the catamaran and once again we’ll set off over the waves. At this time of day a little way off the coast to the west, it is not uncommon to see Bottle Nosed Dolphins playing in the boats wake and if we’re really fortunate we could even spot a hump back whale or two.
A little further up the coast we’ll stop for a breather at Anse Cochon ( St Lucia’s “Bay of Pigs”). Here, there is beautiful coral to explore with snorkel and mask or just take a refreshing jump in off the boat to swim in the crystal clear blue waters that surround us.
If there’s time we’ll slip into to Hurricane Hole at Marigot Bay, the location many years ago for the filming of Dr Doolittle starring Rex Harrison. It’s a picturesque inlet usually filled with yachts from all over the world. Leaving Marigot to the south, we’ll carry on up the coast past the harbor at Castries until we are back once again in Rodney Bay. It will be around 4.30pm/5.00 pm and everyone will be a little sleepy from the sun and the salty air.
Everyone loves these day cruises and many visitors come back over and over. We hope you will give it a try too!
